Reasons Why Your AC is Blowing Out Warm Air
On a hot day when the heat is unbearable, and you need your AC unit to be firing, the last thing you want is your unit to malfunction. How frustrating would it be to hear your AC blasting but find out that it is all sound and has no cool air? Warm air from your AC makes for an uncomfortable environment to work or relax in. Why is this happening? Continue reading to learn some possible reasons that your AC is blowing out warm air.
Thermostat Setting Adjusted
Before letting your frustration about your AC blowing warm air drive you crazy, check to see if the thermostat setting has been adjusted. If you have kids around, maybe it’s been tampered with by one of them. Perhaps you accidentally hit it while moving about or with an object. It’s also possible that the thermostat was not adjusted during the cold season. Ensure that the thermostat setting is where it should be, and check the thermostat batteries while you’re at it.
Refrigerant Leak May Cause Your AC to Blow Warm Air
You can’t have cool air from an AC without the refrigerant that flows through it. You may be experiencing a refrigerant leak that causes a drop in the coolant level. If this is the case, your AC will lose its ability to cool and be left blowing warm air. This problem requires the help of an HVAC technician who can inspect your AC unit and identify if you have a refrigerant leak. The solution is typically an application of an AC-unit-approved sealant to the leakage point and topping up the coolant.
Clogged Air Filters
Your AC’s cooling operation could become compromised if your air filters are dirty and clogged. This could result in reduced or blocked airflow, preventing your AC from blowing out cool air. Dust, pet dander, debris, contaminants, and air particles clog air filters and affect the performance of your AC unit. If air cannot pass through the coil/heat exchanger to absorb the heat from the air in your home, the AC will simply blow warm air back into the space. Perform maintenance work on your air filters and change them to restore proper airflow.
Leaky Ducts
Another source of airflow problems can be leaky ducts. Even minor leaks in your HVAC system ductwork can be problematic. This can lead to a loss of all the conditioned air, which will escape into the environment, essentially releasing all the cool air and replacing it with warm air. As your AC loses cool air and blows warm air throughout your space, the unit will overwork, sending your energy bill up. Get an HVAC technician in to inspect your unit and provide the solution.
